For Chinese companies engaged in international trade or export, if their products require to be sold in EU countries, the CE marking is important. Before obtaining the CE marking, companies must obtain a CE certificate. CE Certificate is an official certificate that indicates products’ compliance with the applicable regulations and standards of the European Economic Area (EEA), authorizing its placement on the European market.

How to get a CE Certificate in China?
The CE Certificate must be issued by an EU-authorized Notified Body. The company needs to submit the relevant product documentation to the Notified Body. And then the Notified Body will conduct testing and evaluation of the product. After completion of testing and assessment, the enterprise must sign the EU Declaration of Conformity. The Notified Body will then issue the CE Certificate. Products that have obtained a CE certificate will be affixed with the CE mark.
About CE certificate and CE marking
The CE certificate is a certification document that proves that a product complies with EU directives and standards. The CE marking is the visible symbol that the product complies with EU directives and standards. To affix the CE marking to a product, a company must first obtain a CE certificate. The CE certificate proves that the product has passed the relevant conformity assessment procedures and meets the basic requirements of the EU.

Apostille and Legalization for the CE Certificate
When submitting official documents abroad, CCPIT Certification alone is often insufficient. Many countries of EEA require additional authentication—either through legalization or an Apostille—to verify the document’s legitimacy.
China has officially joined the Hague Convention and become a member state. The Apostille Convention came into effect in China on November 7, 2023.
If the CE Certificate is to be used in the 1961 Hague Convention, you need to provide an Apostilled document. The Apostille is typically handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MOFA) or its authorized local foreign affairs offices.
If the country CE Certificate to be used is not in the 1961 Hague Convention, you need to provide a Legalized document. The legalization is usually handled by the consulate of the corresponding country in China.
Apostille Procedures of the CE Certificate
Submit the CE Certificate with CCPIT Certification to the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China (MFA) or an authorized local Foreign Affairs Office for apostille.
Legalization Procedures of the CE Certificate
STEP 1. Submit the CE Certificate with CCPIT Certification to Chinese Foreign Ministry for authentication.
STEP 2. Submit the authenticated CE Certificate to corresponding Embassy/Consulate in China for legalization.
