If you have the Certificate of Employment/Resignation that needs to be used in another country, you must have it notarized. Documents required for Certificate of Employment Notarization
1. The original or scanned copy of Employment Certificate.
2. The scanned copy of passport photo page and visa or long-term residence permit in China. Chinese citizens also need to provide the scanned copy of their Chinese ID card and the household registration book.
3. The scanned copy of the temporary accommodation registration form.
4. The copy of employment contract.
5. Proof of individual income tax paid in China in the past year.
6. Social insurance payment record.
7. If a third party is helping with the application, the power of attorney is also required.

Apostille and Legalization for the Certificate of Employment
When submitting official documents abroad, a notary’s signature alone is often insufficient. Many countries require additional authentication—either through legalization or an Apostille—to verify the document’s legitimacy.
China has officially joined the Hague Convention and become a member state. The Apostille Convention came into effect in China on November 7, 2023.
• If the country you use the Certificate of Employment/Certificate of Resignation is in the 1961 Hague Convention, you need to provide an Apostilled document.
• If the country you will use the Certificate of Employment/Certificate of Resignation is not in the 1961 Hague Convention, you need to provide a Legalized document.

Take the notarized Certificate of Employment to the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or an authorized local Foreign Affairs Office for apostille.
